Imperial Intentions and Frontier Realities: Provincial Politics in the Aztec Empire

A graduate of the University of Kentucky (Ph.D. 2008), Dr. Venter is an expert on political and social interaction on the frontiers of the Aztec Empire. With National Science Foundation support, Dr. Venter rediscovered the head town of Totogal in the Aztec province of Tochtepec. Her research sheds light on how indigenous inhabitants on the fringes of empire negotiated their position vis-à-vis their Aztec overlords and their regional neighbors.

 

La Dr. Venter, graduanda de la Universidad de Kentucky (Ph.D. 2008), es experta en cuanto a las interacciones politicas y sociales en las fronteras del Imperio Azteca. Con el apoyo del National Science Foundation, ella logro redescubrir la ciudad de Totogal en la la provincia Azteca de Tochtepec. Sus estudios e investigaciones han esclarecido como los Aztecas realizaban negociaciones  con sus vecinos y superiores en cuanto a la posicion que sostenian en la sociedad.

An exhibit about Mayan and Aztec writings and paitings. Full of color and unique designs come check it out at Willy T's entrance towards Rose Street. The exhibit will be there until December 21st.

Signs of the Times: Text and Image in Classic Maya Civilization

Professor William M. (Bill) Ringle is Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Davidson College, North Carolina. With over thirty years of experience excavating Maya sites in Yucatan, his research explores Maya art and writing, urbanism, settlement patterns, and the archaeological applications of Geographic Information Systems.

 

El profesor William M. Ringle del departamento de Antropología  de Davidsln a college, Carolina del Norte estará dando una conferencia en UK. Ringle tiene más de 30 años de experiencia en excavaciones Mayas en el área de Yucatán. Sus excavaciones e investigaciones se enfocan en el arte y escrituras Mayas, así como también en urbanismo, patrones comunes en asentamientos y en la aplicación de sistemas informáticos geográficos en la arqueología.
