Since 2010, the Chinese Studies program at UK has taken groups of students to Shanghai University in the summer for a 6-credit Conversational Chinese course. Liang Luo is a professor of Chinese culture and language, and has accompanied two of these groups to Shanghai.

Casey Carmichael, who earned his masters degree in Classics at the University in Kentucky in 2010, has been awarded six-month doctoral fellowship from the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz, Germany.

James Knoer, Meredith King & Geoffrey Banta are three students that took Chinese language courses at Shanghai University in May & June of 2012. Their professor, Liang Luo, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern & Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures (MCL) at the University of Kentucky.
