On Friday, Sept. 21, fiddler Finn Magill will perform. The next week, Friday, Sept. 28, country and old-time duo Miller and Milnes will play. These free public concerts will take place at noon, at the Niles Gallery, located in the University of Kentucky Lucille C. Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center.

'Finn the Fiddler'

Raised in Asheville, North Carolina, Andrew "Finn the Fiddler" Magill studied with many traditional American and Irish fiddlers. At 18 years old, Magill released his debut album, "Drive & Lift." In 2014, Magill moved to Rio de Janeiro and studied Brazilian choro music. The result? Magill combines his folk background and jazz study with the Brazilian music style that creates a unique combination of violin and Brazilian music.

Music by Miller and Milnes

Watch Jesse Milnes and Emily Miller perform the twin fiddle tune, "Sally Anne Johnson."

The country and old-time music duo Emily Miller and Jesse Milnes grew up playing and singing old-time classics. In addition to performing as part of the duo, Miller serves as music director of the Davis and Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble. When Milnes is not on the road with Miller, he regularly plays for square dances. The duo sings harmony with Milnes' unique finger-picked guitar style and old-time fiddling.

"The Appalachia in the Bluegrass" concert series celebrates the old-time roots of American folk music by featuring a diverse range of traditional musical expression. The concert series will showcase 12 different artists, duos and groups from southern Appalachia ranging from artists straight off their front porch to those who have earned international acclaim.

The John Jacob Niles Center for American Music, host of the concert series, is a collaborative research and performance center maintained by the UK College of Fine ArtsUK School of Music and UK Libraries.
