Color Your World With Chemistry at Annual Demo Show

Capturing the attention of little minds and chem-enthusiasts across Lexington, the University of Kentucky Department of Chemistry will once again host its Chemistry Demonstration Show at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 23.

Chemistry Department Hosts Dawson Lecture on Friday, October 16th

Prof. Lai-Sheng Wang of Brown University will present this year's Dawson Lecture: "From Planar Boron Clusters to Borophene & Borospherene."  The lecture will be held in CP-139 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in Room 114A&B.

UK's Grossman, Schardl Collaborating With Pennsylvania State University on NIH Grant

Robert Grossman, professor in the University of Kentucky Department of Chemistry, and Christopher L. Schardl, professor and chair of the UK Department of Plant Pathology, are collaborators on a $461,237 National Institutes of Health grant to study oxidizing enzymes.

UK's Butterfield Receives NIH Grant to Study Parkinson's Disease

D. Allan Butterfield, professor in the University of Kentucky Department of Chemistry and Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA), has been awarded a $413,000, two-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to study a new model of Parkinson's disease (PD).

Arts & Sciences Dean Mark Lawrence Kornbluh speaks at the Topping Off Ceremony for the new Academic Science Building. The ceremony signifies the end of the structural phase and the beginning of the remaining phases of the construction process. The Academic Science Building is scheduled to open Fall 2016.

 

 

UK's Woodrum Appointed to American Chemical Society Exams Committee

Kim Woodrum, a senior lecturer in the University of Kentucky Department of Chemistry, has been appointed as a committee member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Chemical Education Examinations Institute.

 

NSF Awards $6 Million to UK and Three Partner Schools to Develop Weather Research Drones

A $6 million National Science Foundation grant will allow researchers at the University of Kentucky, Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and University of Nebraska to develop unmanned aircraft systems, otherwise known as drone systems, to study atmospheric physics for improved precision agriculture and weather forecasting.

Biology and Chemistry Chairs Onsite at the Academic Science Building

 

 

Department of Biology Chair Vincent Cassone and Department of Chemistry Chair Mark Meier recently visited the Academic Science Building construction site to discuss the ways in which the building will transform science education on campus. The Academic Science Building is scheduled to open Fall 2016.
