Minors in the Research Policy

All minors (under the age of 18) whether they are a student, employee, or volunteer must have a completed Minors in Research Project Registration BEFORE beginning any work or conducting any research in a University of Kentucky research lab, greenhouse, animal facility, or field work.  The lab's principal investigator where the minor will be working is responsible for completing this process.

Note: no one under the age of 14 is permitted to work or conduct research in the above listed locations at the university unless it is a UK sponsored program designed for youth (training and safety policies must be documented with the university)

Please follow these steps to complete and submit your project registration information:

  • Consult the instruction document for additional information, rules, and policies in regards to minors before beginning the approval process
  • Complete the Project Registration form and submit the form here online (the form is found at this link as well)

This proposal must be sent at least 2 weeks prior to the minor beginning work.

If you have questions about this process, please contact A&S Space and Facilities or EHS directly.

Training required
Minors should follow the same training guidelines as all other lab members (see Training Requirements). Their information should also be listed in the lab safety manual.
